Magda Butrym Comes to NYC
NEW YORK CITY - Polish designer Magda Butrym opened her first store in a New York boutique at 170 Mercer Street in SoHo, followed by her Spring 2027 runway show, Welcome to New York.
Founded in Warsaw in 2014, Magda Butrym has established a distinctive identity through sculptural silhouettes, intricate hand-finished details, and signature elements like roses and crochet, all inspired by Slavic heritage and Polish craftsmanship.
In 2026, Butrym designed her newest collection with the store opening in mind and wanted to incorporate both Poland and New York through her designs. Taking inspiration from the past, Butrym drew parallels with Polish conceptual artist Natalia LL, who came to the city in the 1970s and engaged in the international feminist art movement.
Butrym connected this history to her own brand’s journey from Poland to New York, highlighting the power of women within the fashion industry. Balancing between Polish roots and New York setting can Butrym expand into an international fashion capital?
The designer stepped away from her usual vibrant, body-hugging dresses and turned her attention to outerwear. Textured crochet, faux fur, shearling, bouclé, and thick knits gave the collection a bold, layered feel, while her New York show introduced a more delicate side through sheer fabrics, lingerie-inspired accents, and apron-style silhouettes. Styles that can easily be paired with jeans or T-shirts took on a completely different look on the runway when matched with silky, lingerie-inspired dresses, lace-trimmed pieces, and sleek trench coats for a more polished appearance.
Through this collection, Butrym showed how her Polish roots continue to influence her designs while embracing the energy of New York. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern styling, she presented a collection that reflects both her cultural background and her growing presence in the American fashion scene. Her first U.S. store marks an important step for the brand, bringing her vision and unique approach to fashion to a wider audience.
