New York Men’s Day is Back
NEW YORK — It’s time for men's fashion to shine once more! An announcement was just released for the 27th New York Men's Day (NYMD) next winter, an event for menswear and unisex designers to have a chance to show off their creations.
NYMD was founded by Erin Hawker in 2014, created as a way to support men and genderless fashion designers to showcase their work without needing the huge budget or financial backing that usually comes with putting on a traditional runway show.
The show comes every six months and in every season brings together eight to twelve up-and-coming designers for group presentations that run for two hours at a time. NYMD provides their own physical space, hair, and make-up teams for contestants. Sponsors and organizers cover more than 85% of the presentation costs for selected designers, which eases the heavy financial burden on their work. The platform also makes it easier for editors, buyers, and media to check out multiple menswear brands all in one place, saving time while discovering fresh talent and new trends.
This season’s selection committee features some big names in fashion and media, including Nordstrom’s men’s fashion and editorial director Jian DeLeon, stylist Memsor Kamarake, Complex Media editor in chief Aria Hughes, and Grazia editor in chief Joseph Errico.
Last season brought back plenty of familiar favorites, each with its own take on modern fashion. From bold colors and playful designs to streetwear-inspired looks, the collections mixed contemporary styles with sharp cuts and clean, precise details.
